FAQ
Why should I visit Barcelona by bike? |
Although cycling is relatively new to Barcelona it has become very much en vogue. You will be pleasantly surprised by the acceptance of this 'new' means of transport – not usually found in Mediterranean cities. From the perspective of a cyclist you will get a special feeling for this wonderful city with its unique contrasts between history and modernity, mountains and sea. The speed of bicycle travel is just perfect for seeing a lot of things in a relatively short time, whilst keeping a pace that allows you to really take in your new surroundings. Last but not least, you will feel good about actively exploring a new place actively with some fresh Mediterranean breeze in your face.
Just as an anecdote: The normal car traffic in traffic intense Barcelona moves around with an average speed of 21,6km/h. We will almost be able to match this...
Is it safe to visit Barcelona by bike? |
Barcelona possesses more than 120km of cycle lanes. Local car drivers have been getting more and more used to cyclists over the years and drive very carefully.
Nevertheless there are some local peculiarities – especially regarding the cycling of many one-way-streets. Our bike guides will let you know before heading off, together with a brief instruction on how to use our bikes – making sure you always feel safe and secure.
Although it's not an obligation we strongly recommend using a helmet. Just let us know in advance and there will be one available for you to hire.

How much of Barcelona and its sights will I see? |
A lifetime is not enough, to get to know all the things Barcelona has to offer. Barcelona is a vibrant city where new trends, stunning buildings, state of the art boutiques and cycle lanes emerge on a daily basis.
However, each of our trips you will provide you with a deeper insight into a particular side of Barcelona's neighbourhoods, people and culture.
Naturally one can't cycle freely anywhere in the historic centre because of its narrow lanes and pedestrian areas. Here the focus will be on the main points of historical interest. In this area the bike tour cannot substitute a more detailed exploration by foot. However, it will provide a fantastic introduction. Our guides will provide with more information en route.
What happens when its rains? |
Barcelona has more than 300 days of sunshine in a year – normally we don't have to worry about bad weather. In addition Barcelona doesn't get too hot in summer either due to its cooling breeze from the Mediterranean. In the evening it might get cooler, for the "Night Tour" you might want to bring a light sweater.
In case of rain, we will organise a café con leche or vino tinto break.
Do you have bikes for hire? |
Unfortunately not. BARCELONA BY BIKE does not rent out their bikes, other than on its organised trips. We are happy to put you in touch with local bike rental agencies.
What do I have to bring on a trip? |
For your own comfort, bring as little as possible on our tours. Barcelona is blessed with a mild Mediterranean climate. Only on the "Night Tour" and in winter might you need warmer clothing.
Don't forget to bring your swimming costume - our standard tours begin and end right next to some of the best beaches in town.
And after the trip? |
After the trip you'll have earned a well deserved rest. You will find yourself in the right place – the Olympic port. This is right on the Mediterranean beach front and you can take a refreshing swim before or after the trip. So don't forget your swimming costume and a towel. We can store small items for you whilst you are taking the tour (responsibility in case of loss remains your own). You may also be hungry after the ride. In the Olympic port you will find a huge variety of great seafood restaurants, simple beach bars and fast food restaurants.
If you are part of a large group (minimum 15 people) why not combine your day of active exploration on our bikes with a leisurely coastal trip on Catamaran – also departing from where our bike trips ends.
